The Visual Arts Society (VES) have announced their nominees for 15th Annual VES Awards, and Westworld is one of the nominees. The Society is a prestigious conglomeration of visual effects practitioners including artists, animators, model makers, educators, technologists, studio leaders, supervisors, PR/marketing specialists as well as producers working in the entertainment industry. The Annual VES Awards is a recognition of “outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists who bring this work to life.”
Westworld’s season finale, “The Bicameral Mind” has received a nomination in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode category. In case you are curious, folks who were behind the special effects of the episode are Jay Worth, Elizabeth Castro, Bobo Skipper, and Gustav Ahrén. In the above-mentioned category, Westworld is competing against Black Mirror’s “Playtest”, Game of Throne’s “Battle of Bastards”, Stranger Things‘ “Demogorgon” and “Salvage” of The Expanse. Altogether there are 24 categories, and to take a look at the rest of the nominees, head this way.
Kubo and the Two Strings is being considered the top contender in the animation category. Among feature films Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has received most nominations while other top contenders include Doctor Strange and The Jungle Book. As for TV shows, Game of Thrones leads with overall 11 nominations, including the Broadcast Field and Score.
Despite the Golden Globes snub, looks like HBO has got a lot to look forward to. Westworld will be receiving a ton of nominations this award season. The show is also up for Producers Guild Awards on January 28 and Art Directors Guild Awards, on February 11.
