We aren’t the only one scouring Westworld’s subreddit for news, theories and leaked information. Westworld co-creator Jonathan Nolan lurks around reading what fans post and sometimes drops an exclusive piece of intel on Reddit. He has done it again.
If you are a regular r/Westworld visitor, you’d know the power the subreddit holds. Jonathan Nolan is a regular in there; he has a verified account and has been interacting with fans for the past four years (before Westworld, he created Person of Interest). One Reddit user, Brew_Swillis posted a thread saying – Can we end the endless maze image posts? – that drew over a hundred comments. One of the commenters was Jonathan Nolan. He wrote “nope” and posted the following picture. (You can see the comment here)
So “Episode 201” really means ‘Westworld season 2 episode 1’. It’s a title and it goes like – “Journey into N_______”. As you can see, the rest is covered by a smiley face maze.
My best possible (and most obvious) guess is, it says “Journey into Night”. It’s the title of Ford’s narrative that he unveiled in the last episode of season 1. To recall, in the post-episode interview, Nolan had said:
“If the first season was defined by control, the second season is defined by chaos. I think that’s part of what we come to understand Ford has been planning all along […] Ford has set in motion what he thinks is a plan — the nature of that plan is something we explore in the second season. What his intentions are, are they to let Dolores and the other hosts escape? Are they simply to teach the human guests a lesson?”
We know there’ll be a time jump in the beginning of Westworld season 2 so “Journey into Night” episode will see the unraveling of the aftermath of Ford’s narrative (like many of my fellow watchers, I believe the robot revolt was orchestrated by Ford).
